electric arguments is the first fireman album in 10 years, and this song based album couldnt be more different than its predecessors. for those who dont know by now, the fireman is a collaborative project between music icon paul mccartney and revered producer youth. the pair first worked together in the 90s when they made two ambient dance albums. originally the firemans identity was anonymous and was eventually revealed by the press as being paul and youth. in september it was announced that the fireman would this year release their first brand new material in a decade and this time there was a big difference - the duo had found their voice. speculation began, one studio insider was reported as saying the new songs sounds like arcade fire meets led zeppelin. certainly so far, anyone who has already heard the album has commented on just how accessible electric arguments is, compared to the first two fireman albums. this album is an eclectic and diverse collection of songs that show paul is still interested in pure musical possibilities. each track was written and recorded in the space of one day. the fireman went into the studio with no plan or clear direction of how they wanted the album to sound. the project took a life of its own and the results will surprise anyone expecting to hear the previous sound of the band.

the chaps at off-key hq have been busy digging out the old dat tapes from their attic and sorting out the wheat from the chaff. for this release they go way back to bring you four more tracks courtesy of kimble, a collaboration between matt o brien and matt gates (aka minor planets). kicking things off is the beatless sketch of >lycius<, spiky alien synths flicker and pierce through detached ethereal pads moving in the surrounding weightless space. next up is the ep s lynchpin track, >state of shock<. proper techno is the order of the day here, this is an authentic old school minimal track first recorded in 1996 but left gathering dust ever since. immerse yourself in the subtle dub inflected melodies swirling in your womb bubble while the slamming rhythm track provides the heartbeat. over on the flip we chill things out with the haunting strings and aquatic bassline of >amb<, providing a delicate counterpoint to the upfront style of the a side. the ep is completed with a stunning remix of >state of shock< by minor planets, who layer on a towering bassline and transform the original into a laid back dub workout.

brilliant tracks again from lovebirds and winding road records. in the shadows is a pumping techno-house track with explosive vocals - and possibly one of winding roads best moments to date. it has all the right ingredients to be the tune of summer 2008, but theres no doubt its still cool enough for the discerning dj to play over and over again. this is going to be the >track of the night< in hundreds of dj sets over the next few months! theres also an instrumental included, under the name avlium. here, the vocals are stripped away to leave a slice of robot disco which is absolutely essential for the darker club djs. this track has been getting massive international dj support. the final track on the package is sarice, which injects a scintillating dose of growling underground darkness. winding road do the business again

songs from the source is a lost and found 1973 recording of the source family. these twelve songs were recorded live in the hollywood hills as a rehearsal for a concert date that spirit of 76 - aka yahowah 13, the savage sons of yahowa, yodship, and firewaterair, now known as children of the sixth root race - had at the whisky. a 1/4 tape copy of the recording was found in chicago in 2006, though no one is really sure how it got there. djin aquarian, rhythm guitarist and songwriter for spirit of 76, recalls being sent on a mission to chicago later in 1973, where he believes he left the tape with an old friend. djin wrote most of the songs in the year before he joined with the source, as part of his solo mystical quest to help enlighten the world before it might annihilate itself, adding, im glad both the album and the world are still here.though this rehearsal wasnt meant to be released at the time, there are probably no other recordings as complete of the band doing these songs. the spirit of 76 had a different sound than the one yahowah 13 made with yahowa. songs from the source has more r n b grooved energy, with splashes of synth and organ, a female vocal chorus and streamlined fusion rhythms backing the uniquely yahowan lyrical populism of songs like godmen and lost dead but hoping. songs from the source is a miraculous missing piece of the sources positive musical movement. the members of yahowah 13 (djin, sunflower on bass, octavius on drums) were joined by family members ahom, aquariana, cinderella, rhythm, vibration, and zoroaster on lead guitar, to create the ecstatic sound of spirit of 76.

finally here two new remixes of the great track originally performed by patty smith and wrote by bruce springsteen! these two remixes are produced by the well-known nello simioli & raf marchesini, the first version includes various fender guitar-gimmicks, the second one more basic!
